For the final play our class chose to perform a Broken Past. My job in the production was to design and create the backdrop along with a few other students.
Summary of Play: A Broken Past is about a father named Marcus who has PTSD, who's life falls apart when he begins to distrust his wife and her faith to him because of a friend from the past who stirs up trouble. His life changes forever when his anger gets the better of him. He then wishes nothing more but to change what he has done for a better future.
Backdrop Design: In the play Marcus loses everything he has due to his disorder. To represent this we took "family photos" of the cast-members who play his family and replaced them with ruined versions throughout the play; as if everything he ever had was destroyed and taken away from him. To achieve this we took four photos and built frames to put them in. Then we duplicated each photo and made them black and white, so it looked like those memories were only of his past and not in his future. Then we put the black and white photos in broken frames to go along with the title of the play, A Broken Past.
