Overcoming the Unknown
I chose to create a bowling ball and pin for my sculpture because I am passionate about bowling. It is one of the many hobbies that I use to take my mind off of the everyday stress and anxiety. When I bowl, I let go all of the tasks, deadlines and drama that exist outside of the bowling alley. I struggle a lot with social anxiety. When I started high school, social anxiety started to define me. People say that I am “quiet” or “shy” because I don’t talk that much. I don’t like small talk, I don’t like big groups, and meeting new people has always been a challenge for me. However, it wasn’t too hard to make friends while bowling in a league. Everyone was so welcoming and wanted to help each other out. Conversation came easy since we all shared the same passion. Because of anxiety, my whole life has consisted of what if’s and fearing the unknown. One of the cool things about bowling is that I can’t always have control over how many pins will fall over. It helps me let go and realize that it’s okay to not always know how everything will turn out. |
